The Lakbima Mothers and Daughters Association says that steps should be taken to increase the number of female representation in Sri Lankan politics.
Representatives of the association made this statement while addressing a media briefing convened in Colombo on Tuesday.
Convener of the Lakbima Mothers and Daughters Association Shantha Daluwatta said that 52 percent of Sri Lanka’s population is women and noted that 56 percent are eligible to vote.
Expressing views on women taking part in politics, she went on to note that only 13 women representatives are there in the Parliament which consists of 225 members.
