It was a record break for Australia and Heart Break for Afghanistan on Wednesday’s encounter at the ICC Cricket World Cup.There have been 15 scores of more than 400 in the history of one-day international cricket, all of them since 2006, three of them since Friday.
The 417 runs Australia tore out of Afghanistan’s bowlers in Perth chewed up landmarks as it rumbled along: highest all-wicket partnership , highest score in a World Cup, highest score on Australian soil.
Australia have steamrolled their way to the biggest win in Cricket World Cup history with a victory over Associate nation Afghanistan in their Pool A encounter at the WACA Ground in Perth.
David Warner top scored for the Aussies with a massive knock of 178, while Steven Smith fell short of a century dismissed for 95.
Chasing Australia’s gargantuan 6-417 – the highest total in World Cup history – the Afghans were never in the hunt, bowled out for 142 in the 38th over to complete a 275-run defeat.
