The flower decorations in the outer perimeter of Temple Trees which was set up at a cost of Rs.3 million in lieu of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, were removed on Saturday.

Forty five thousand (45,000) flower pots concealed within a metal mesh were set up in a manner that covers the wall of Temple Trees.

As around 3000 plants die a month, replacement flowers were needed to be brought in.

The Director of the Peradeniya Botanical Garden who had inspected these flower decorations recently  had instructed that the soil be removed and replaced adding that if it is not done, the plants may wither.

Secretary to the Prime Minister Saman Ekanayake said that it has been decided to hand over these flower decorations to the Gampaha Botanical Garden as a large sum of money has been spent on its maintenance adding that there was no reason to waste more public funds.
