President Maithripala Sirisena, addressing a meeting held in Polonnaruwa, stated that instructions rendered by experts in the field had not been adhered to, during recent disaster management activities.
The President stated that natural disasters will be prevented through the establishment of a special commission with foreign funding, if needed.
The distribution of compensation to families whose houses were damaged in the recent floods in Polonnaruwa was held at the Pulasthi Buddhi Mandapaya, on Monday.
Compensation was distributed among families from 393 households destroyed in the floods as well as to one thousand and 34 families whose houses were damaged.
Speaking at the event President said that its the duty of every politician and government officer to fulfill the requirements of the public. And added that the most important of this is to help the public when they are faced with trials and tribulations.
Minister John Amaratunga, who also addressed the gathering, stated that the Chinese government has provided special funds for Disaster Management.
