The case pertaining to the incident in Waduraba, where a stage setup for a UNP election rally was attacked and damaged, was taken up at the Baddegama Magistrate’s Court.
Former Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama and a group of individuals were charged with damaging the stage of an election rally of the then Common Candidate, Maithripala Sirisena in Waduraba last December.
The lawyer speaking on behalf of the defence, requested court to release the impounded passport of the former deputy minister for a short period.
Thereby, the Baddegama Magistrate ordered to release the surrendered passport of UPFA MP Nishantha Muthuhettigama on Monday, based on orders that the passport be surrendered to Court again on March 23.
Meanwhile, the case filed by Western Provincial Councillor Nimal Lansa claiming that Minister Ranjan Ramanayake had assaulted him during the run-up to the Western Provincial Council Polls was heard again before the Negombo District Court, on Monday.
During the hearing, the Additional District Judge ordered Minister Ranjan Ramanayake to provide answers when the case will be taken up for hearing on June 8.
