Dengue statistics have doubled – authorities warn

The Ministry of Health and Indigenous medicine states that the number of Dengue patients that have been reported are twice the number reported during the same time, last year.

Director of the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry, specialist Dr. Paba Palihawadana stated that in the past one and a half months alone, 6996 dengue patients have been reported; with the most number of patients being from the district of Colombo. That number stands at 2089.

Furthermore, 840 patients from Gampaha, 667 patients from Jaffna, 313 from Kalutara and 392 from Puttalam have also been reported.

Dr. Palihawadana stated that a special programme will be held on the 19th, 20th and 21st, in the Western Province to raise awareness on the rapid spread of the disease and how to control it.
