Fuel price reduction objective not achieved – says Patali Champika

Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Power and Energy says the expected objectives through the reduction of fuel prices have not been achieved.

The Minister made this comment while attending the Energy Day celebration organised by Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda.

Minister of Power and Energy, Patali Champika Ranawaka stated that the reduction of petrol prices was made with the hope of reducing the cost of living of the people. However, according to the statistics of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation the only thing that has happened as a result of this is the increase in the use of fuel. The people have not utilized this price reduction into the other sectors of their lives.

He added that the gas deposits have been discovered from the ocean bed surrounding the country, in a few years will be able to use all these resources.
