An event to extend the wishes of the residents of Rajarata to President Maithripala Sirisena took place Jan. 25 at the Thopa Wewa Maha Vidyalaya grounds in Polonnaruwa.
The objective of this ceremony was to highlight the appointment of a farming son as president of the country by changing the previous administration.
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena visited the Sri Maha Bodhi in the morning and obtained blessings. The president, who arrived in Anuradhapura, first paid a visit to the Venerable Pallegama Sirinivasa Thero and later paid homage to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
President Maithripala Sirisena then visited the Ruwanweli Seya and performed religious observances. Ministers P.Harrison, Chandrani Bandara and others were present at the occasion.
Blessings were invoked by the Maha Sangha lead by the Anunayake of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Sect, Venerable Girambe Ananda Thero on President Sirisena who visited the Sri Sarananda Priven Vihara in Anuradhapura.
According to the President’s Media Unit, Venerable Girambe Ananda Thero had said that a son of a farmer being elected as the Head of State has raised the expectations of all the people who love the country. They added that the Maha Sangha had commended the president as a leader who understands the pain and sorrow of the people, and has the strength and courage to steer the country in the right direction.
