Central Bank Governer Ajith Nivard Cabraal has informed the former president that he has decided to step down from his post with immediate effect.

Issuing a communique, the Central Bank notes that he arrived at his decision in order to make way for a new governor.

Ajith Nivard Cabraal was appointed to the post of the Governor of the Central Bank in 2006.
