The inclement weather that affected the country recently has prompted a drastic price hike for some varieties of vegetables, with some types costing over Rs. 400 a kilogramme
Most vegetables are being sold in the retail market at present at prices between Rs.350 and Rs.450 per kilogramme.
Traders point out that the drastic drop in the vegetable supply had led to this situation, they also point out that consumers are not willing to purchase vegetables at such high prices.
The wholesale prices of vegetables at the Dambulla Economic Centre have also increased due to the lack of supply.
