A meeting was organised in Colombo on Wednesday to raise awareness amongst women ahead of the forthcoming presidential election.

The meeting was chaired by female representatives from political parties and civil organisations. This meeting took place at the amphitheatre of the Vihara Maha Devi Park in Colombo and was attended by New Democratic Front Presidential Candidate Maithripala Sirisena and several other opposition political representatives.

Faizer Musthapaha who defected from the Government to support Maithripala Sirisena was also present at this meeting. Presidential Candidate of New Democratic Front, Maithripala Sirisena shared these views:
Shirani Bandaranayake was the first female Chief Justice in the history of this country. The impeachment of Shirani Bandaranayake is not only an insult to her alone, but an insult to the whole female population. At this moment I wish to state that with the amendments that will take place under our new government, the female representation in Parliament, local authorities and provincial councils will be increased.
