President Mahinda Rajapaksa met with people affected by the extreme weather in the Badulla district on Sunday morning. The President had cancelled several rallies that he was to attend on Sunday morning, and had turned his attention towards providing relief for people in the Badulla District who have been affected by the extreme weather conditions.
The Presidential Media Unit says the President visited scenes of landslides in Rilpola, Medagama and Moragollawaththa in Badulla on Sunday and looked into the situation there.
The President also visited the Welikemulla Maha Vidyalaya and inquired into the well-being of people who have been displaced by the natural disasters.The President had stated that homes that were destroyed by landslides in the Badulla district, will be rebuilt in areas that are not landslide prone.
The Presidential Media Unit said the President had also instructed the relevant authorities to ensure that welfare work for the affected populace is carried out appropriately and continuously. The government has also decided to provide financial aid for farmers to re-cultivate paddy fields that were destroyed as a result of the extreme weather.
