President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the relevant officials to provide relief to those affected, without taking circulars or money regulations into consideration.
The President issued these instructions after meeting with those affected in the Anuradhapura District on Saturday morning.
As several public rallies which were scheduled to be held in the Badulla District on Saturday morning under the auspices of President Mahinda Rajapaksa were cancelled, the Head of State looked into the welfare of those affected by the inclement weather.
The President who visited relief camps in the Anuradhapura District, looked into the well being of those have been provided shelter.
Subsequently, President Rajapaksa had convened a special meeting with political representatives and relief officials, to discuss matters pertaining to a future course of action in terms of welfare.
During this meeting the President had instructed the officials to provide immediate relief to the people.
The Presidential Media Unit stated that the President had decided to provide a relief fund to the people courtesy of the government for items which were lost due to extreme weather as well as rebuild houses which were damaged with the assistance of the armed forces.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa had also instructed that all illegal constructions in reservoirs be looked into and that legal action be taken.
