According to the Irrigation Department, 160 medium scale reservoirs are overflowing owing to the heavy rains.The Directress of the Water Management Unit of the Irrigation Department Janaki Meegastanna said 61 out of 73 reservoirs are overflowing.
The Directress of the Water Management Unit of the Irrigation Department Janaki Meegastanna said spill gates of twenty two main reservoirs have been opened.
The Director of Water Resources Division of the Irrigation Department Prema Hettiarachchi said the water levels of Kelaniya, Kalu and Nilwala rivers have receded. She added however that there is no flood warning.
Meanwhile, the floods near Mahaweli and Malawathu oya will take a few days to subside.
