Over 900,000 affected by the inclement weather (Special Report)

The prevalent inclement weather has affected 930,000 persons from across the country.

Furthermore, the death toll from landslides and falling of earth embankments in Badulla has risen to seven. Ten deaths have been reported from other areas, bringing the total number of deaths from the inclement weather to 17. The landslide warning that was issued to 11 district is still in effect, while the most affected district has been identified as the Badulla District.

Search and rescue operations are underway to locate missing persons from the landslide that took place at the Acre 53 area in Megama, which is located in Rilpola, Badulla. The bodies of a nurse, her child and brother who were missing were recovered today. Search and rescue continues to locate the others believed to be trapped under the mound of earth.

Meanwhile, search and rescue are underway to locate two persons trapped under a mound of earth in the 7th Mile Post area in Uduwara, Badulla. With existing risk of landslides, over 200 families from the Third Mile Post and Hali Ela areas have been moved to Rahula College.
