Earnings from minor export crops have dropped significantly in the first ten months of the year. Official government data indicates that earnings from minor export crops including cinnamon and pepper, dropped by 27 percent in the first ten months of 2014.

Earnings from the minor export crops sector in the same period last year stood at 249.5 million US dollars, with the figure dropping to 212.9 million US dollars, this year.

In October alone, income from minor export crops fell by 40 percent. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka cites the continuous decline in production as the reason for the drop in income.
