Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka says that it has identified 810 fake websites in the country at present. Director of the office, Athula Pushpakumara said reports conclude that these websites have been operating from overseas.
The aim of designing these website had reportedly been for purposes such as publicising false information and undermining political affairs.
Director of ICTA, Athula Pushpakumara also added that the there are over 1000 websites that are operating on Facebook without going through a verification process.
He said that the ICTA had taken steps to request Facebook to deactivate 500 such Facebook accounts.
