President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Attorney-at-Law Upul Jayasuriya expressed these following views at a media briefing convened on Friday.
State media is being used for the promotion of a certain candidate in a serious way. There is the possibility of taking legal action against the authorities at state media institutions who are violating the law. There are legal provisions for this purpose. Thereby, cases should be filed against them in keeping with these provisions. This is tantamount to the vicious use of state property. It is wrong, it is a criminal offence, it is a serious criminal offence as stated in the law. It is evident to us that authorities are acting in violation of clauses that are specific to state property.
