The JHU issued a communique on Thursday regarding the Party Deputy General Secretary Udaya Gammanpila decision to leave the party.
The communique was issued under the signature of the JHU’s Media Secretary, Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe.
The communique reads that although Udaya Gammanpila cited policy reasons for his decision to leave the party, the party’s policy is to establish democracy and good governance.
The JHU also points out that it was Udaya Gammanpila himself that stated at the party convention, that the government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa must accomplish this before the presidential election, and that compromises could not be made on the matter.
The JHU states further that while persons who have defected from the government or joined the government over the past several days have stated that they reached their decisions on principle or in keeping with their conscience, there are various views spreading among the people regarding these crossovers.
The JHU states that it is unaware for which of these reasons Udaya Gammanpila arrived at his decision.
