Do not endorse incident at Marandagahamula – says President during meeting with media heads

President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that he in no way endorses the recent incident that occurred in Marandagahamula. He made this statement on Friday morning during a meeting with the heads of media institutions.

Heads of Print and Electronic Media Institutions called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees on Friday morning. At the meeting, the President said that his victory at the elections is definite. The President who pointed out that defections from the party are not an issue, went on say that he has full confidence in his cabinet.

President Rajapaksa also said that he wishes common candidate Maithripala Sirisena the very best, adding that he rejects all allegations made by some that they were not allowed to operate in their ministries whilst with the government. The Head of State had also emphasised that he always provides hospitality to anyone who comes to visit him at Temple Trees.

Ministers Keheliya Rambukwella, Professor G.L. Peiris, Nimal Siripala de Silva and Anura Priyadharshana Yapa and senior Government Officials were present at this meeting.

Meanwhile, President Rajapaksa also convened a meeting with members of the Coconut Cultivators Association on Friday morning. Over 5000 members representing the association were present for this meeting. The Head of State had said that no matter what allegation is levelled against the government by persons who despise the development of the nation, the development programmes that are initiated for the betterment of the public will go ahead.

He added that he is not prepared to postpone the development and leave the people in the dark  with the expectation of elections.
