The Jathika Hela Urumaya notes that they will engage in a genuine discussion on pledging support to the common candidate, in the coming days. General Secretary of the JHU Patali Champika Ranawaka noted that the party is committed to upholding the unitary nature of the state

General Secretary of the Jathika Hela Urumaya, Patali Champika called on the Chief Prelate of the Amarapura Maha Sanga Sabha, Most Ven. Davuldena Gnanissara Thera.

Champika Ranawaka said that several points including the parties policies were brought to the attention of the Mahanayake.

General Secretary of JHU, Patali Champika Ranawaka expressed the following views:

“We saw the consequences that the Buddhist community had to undergo when there were attempts to open up casinos by the government opposite the Bauddhaloka Temple although the Mahanayakes were against this decision. Our party is geared up to unite this country. Whether the President, Secretary of Defence and the commanders of the forces have the power or not , we are ready to unite the country. If attempts are being made to punish them for eradicating terrorism one needs to be troubled about it. We would not allow persons like Suren Surendiran to control the presidential election as they please.”
