Rs 1m was given per month for low income Pradeshiya Sabhas: Athaullah

The expenditure heads of the Ministry of Local Governments and Provincial Councils were taken up for debate in Parliament on Saturday.

At the debate, Subject Minister A.L.M. Athaullah expressed the following views:

[quote]One million rupees was given per month for low income Pradeshiya Sabhas and local government institutions. During this budget, he has made allocations for two million rupees to be given a month. From November the allowances of members of local government institutions have been increased. The allowance of a Pradeshiya Sabha member has been increased to 15,000 rupees from November. In addition, the allowance of the deputy chairman has been increased to 20,000 and for the chairman it has been increased to 25,000 rupees. The allowance for Urban Councillors has been increased to 20,000 rupees while the allowance for the deputy mayor has been increased upto 25,000 rupees and for the mayor, 30,000 rupees[/quote]
