Speaking at a rally organised in Colombo on Wednesday by the National Council for a Clean Tomorrow, opposition parties reiterated that there is no question about who will be the common opposition candidate.
The rally was spearheaded by Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thera. The public rally commenced at 3 p.m. at the Muttiah Grounds close to the Hunupitiya Gangarama Viharaya in Colombo.
The public rally was initially to be held at the Hyde Park in Colombo. However, after the rally was met with certain disruptions, it was moved to the Muttiah Grounds.
A group including Leader of the Jathika Hela Urumaya Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thero, Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero and Convenor of the National Movement for Social Justice Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero were present for this public rally.
Senior Members of the United National Party as well as Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, were also in attendance.
JVP Politburo Member K.D. Lalkantha attended the rally on behalf of his party. However, Leader of the Democratic Party Sarath Fonseka and General Secretary of the JHU, Minister Patali Champika Ranwaka did not attend the rally.
