Koslanda Landslide: Army and Air Force continue search operations (Latest Video)

Search operations are currently underway in a final bid to find survivors trapped inside the rubble.Around 500 army and air force personnel have been deployed to conduct search operations.

Three hundred (300) families in Nuwara Eliya have been evacuated owing to the inclement weather – as a result of incessant rains.

Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D.P.G. Kumarasiri, speaking to News1st said that a group of 1200 residents in a landslide prone-area were thus evacuated.

Meanwhile, making a special statement in Parliament, Chief Government whip Dinesh Gunawardena said that the government will bear full responsibility for the children who were orphaned in Koslanda.

According to our Parliamentry Correspondent, an emergency cabinet meeting was convened to discuss the future course of action.

Meanwhile, it is stated that  mountainous regions including Badulla may expect 100 ml of rainfall.

According to the Department of Meteorology, showers or thundershowers maybe experienced during the afternoon or night.

Senior Geologist of the NBRO Dr. Jayatissa stated that the public should remain vigilant of any possibility of landslides that may occur in areas that have been issued warning.
