The NBRO has also advised government agencies to notify the public to refrain from venturing into landslide affected areas, due to the inclement weather condition as there is a risk of future landslides occurring.

The NBRO earlier on Thursday stated that 4 teams were deployed to inspect the area in which the landslide occured yesterday.

The NBRO is in the process off assessing whether residents could return to their homes.

A decision will be taken after consulting local Government agencies upon the conclusion of investigations.

Senior Geologist at the NBRO Dr. Gamini Jayatissa stated that they intend to conclude initial inspections today.

The displaced people are currently being housed in 2 separate locations for the time being.

Meanwhile, the Met. Department noted that thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island during the afternoon and night.

Heavy falls more than 100mm are also likely at some places.
