Former JVP Parliamentarian Wasantha Samarasinghe says that there are conspirators within the Government. Addressing an event in Anuradhapura on Thursday, Samarasinghe alleged that Foreign Secretary Ksenuka Seneviratne, while serving in Geneva, had direct ties with the LTTE.
Citing an audit report which was compiled by a committee appointed by Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. P.B. Jayasundara, Samarasinghe reveals that a contract worth Rs.18 million was handed over to a company affiliated to the LTTE to renovate the official residence of the Sri Lankan Permanent Representative in Geneva. He noted that the owner of the organisation was arrested by Swiss police for allegedly gathering funds for the LTTE. Samarasinghe also alleged that airline ticketing for the mission in Geneva was also handled by a company affiliated to the LTTE.
Wasantha Samarasinghe questions the government as to who had dealings with the LTTE in the past and calls on the government to prove that the audit report he possesses is wrong ..
Allegation
Speaking exclusively to News1st on Wednesday, Former Sri Lankan Representative to the UN in Geneva Ambassador Tamara Kunanayakam alleged that a contract to renovate the official residence of the Sri Lankan Permanent Representative in Geneva had been awarded to an organisation affiliated with the LTTE.
She states that when she took over the post of SL Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva she called for an audit into the renovation work, adding that the report was handed over to MP Sajin Vaas who is the Monitoring MP for the Ministry of External Affairs .
MP Sajin Vaas reacts
Reacting to these allegations MP Sajin Vaas noted that an ambassador has the right to hand over contracts with regard to such matters as long as it is within the state regulations.
He denied that such an audit report was handed over to him and stated that he has no knowledge about the existence of such a report.
The parliamentarian went on to note that he does not look into establishment matters and also questioned whether people who waged a war against the LTTE would grant contracts to them …
