The National Building Research Organisation has identified five schools in the Matara and Hambantota districts that are faced with the risk of landslides and earth slips.
Senior Geologist of the Landslide Unit of the National Building Research Organisation Gamini Jayatissa stated that 38 schools in six districts including these two districts had been identified earlier, as facing such a risk.
He said that 18 schools in the Kandy District, and four schools each in the Districts of Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Matara and Hambanthota have been identified as situated in landslide-prone areas.
He said that the schools were identified in the past few days as a result of the inclement weather.
