Sabaragamuwa university students who were engaged in a Satyagraha campaign have, on Friday night, been allegedly attacked by thugs.

Convenor of the Sabaragamuwa University Students Union, Rasindu Jayasinghe said the students who were engaged in the Satyagraha Campaign at the Pambahinna junction have been attacked at around 11 p.m. on Friday.

He further said that thugs armed with clubs, had allegedly beat up the students in an inhumane manner and subsequently set fire to their platform.

Six students who were injured during the attack have been admitted to the Balangoda Hospital.

Meanwhile, police said that they arrived at the scene for investigations upon receiving information through the 119 and 118 emergency hotlines.
