JVP Leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, on Thursday, raised questions in Parliament on Former Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Chris Nonis.

The following situation transpired.

Anura Kumara : I forwarded a statement under Standing Order 23-2. The honourable secretary spoke about this statement with me over the phone. However, I have not gotten anything in writing.

Deputy Speaker : It has been sent to your office.

Anura Kumara : Hon. Deputy Speaker, my statement read there was an assault on ambassador Chris Nonis.

Deputy Speaker : The decision of the chair has been sent to you, we request that you make this statement through a substantive motion

Anura Kumara : There were several instances in the statement about a parliamentarian, on that I will agree. However, I have said who committed the assault. If he is a parliamentarian then the Minister of External Affairs can say that he is a member of Parliament and cannot disclose the name. I have said that ambassador Chris Nonis was assaulted, If I can’t ask who committed the assault even in parliament then what is the point ?

Deputy Speaker : We kindly request you to follow the proper procedure to ask this question .
