The low pressure system over the Southeast of the Bay of Bengal has developed into a cyclone.The Met Department forecasts that the cyclone will move towards the eastern coast of India.
Rains in excess of 100 millimetres have been forecast in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and the Galle and Matara districts.
Furthermore, the Met Department notes that rains could also spread to the northwest province.
The Met Department is predicting scattered thundershowers in other parts of the country in the afternoon’s and evenings, adding that thundershowers may be accompanied by temporarily localised strong winds.
The Met Department requests the general public to take adequate precautions to prevent lightning-related accidents.
