New1st came across some rare footage from the Siribopura area in Hambantota.
Our correspondent captured footage of this herd of elephants while they were roaming in the Siribopura area which falls under the purview of the Hambantota Urban Council.
According to our correspondent, the herd consisted of over 70 elephants.
Residents state that the elephant had ventured into the area from the Pahala Andarawewa Forest Reserve in Gannoruwa, Mattala as water and food in the reserve has become scarce.
Residents charge that once night falls, these elephants destroy crops in the Walawa new development zone.
