Several inmates hospitalised after Batticaloa prison clash

Three inmates have been injured following a clash at the Batticaloa Prison.

Prisons Commissioner General , Chandraratne Pallegama said that the injured inmates have now been hospitalised.

Prisons Commissioner General, Chandratane Pallegama commenting on the incident said:

“There is a special inmate in the Batticaloa  Prison. He is placed in a secluded cell. however the authorities had received intonations that this inmate is using a mobile phone and is taking randoms (calls). When inspecting this inmate the authorities have located a phone in his possession. ”

He added; “Following this, the inmate in question had cut two other inmates using a blade under the assumption that these inmates had supplied the authorities with information. All three inmates received minor injuries in the clash that followed and they are receiving treatment.”
