Sri Lanka’s IT literacy highlighted on World Literacy Day

Today is World Literacy Day.

The national celebrations in lieu of the day will be held in Kaluaggala.

The main purpose of the function will be to provide a day filled with activities for children in rural areas who are at or above the age to commence schooling but who do not have the opportunity to do so.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education says that the I.T. literacy of Sri Lankans has increased up to 40 percent.

Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardane said that by 2016 the government hopes to increase this to 75 percent.He said that in certain rural areas of the country the literacy rate is at a very low level.
