It has been confirmed that the woman who died on August 15 at the Rikillagaskada Hospital in Nuwara-Eliya had not contracted the Ebola Virus.
Director General of Health Dr.Palitha Mahipala speaking to News1st said that this information was confirmed by the laboratory in India that ran tests on the deceased woman’s blood samples.
The deceased had been a member of a tour group that visited several areas in Uttar Pradesh in India recently. She was admitted to the Rikillagaskada Hospital for several days after coming down with a flu.
She later passed away at the Hospital and doubts were cast as to whether her death was a result of the Ebola virus.
Thus, her blood samples were sent to India for tests.
Meanwhile, health authorities also took measures to bury the body in a cautious manner, on the same day she died. However, the Ministry of Health stated it has been confirmed that the woman had not died as a result of Ebola.
