A volunteer guide has been mauled by a bear at the Wilpattu National Park. The injured guide is currently being treated at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

The victim of the bear attack is thirty-three-year-old Dinesh Kumara. A volunteer guide at the Wilpattu National Park, Dinesh had entered the park on tuesday evening, accompanied by a wildlife officer. Their purpose was to apprehend poachers.

However, the duo unexpectedly came face to face with a bear which proceeded to attack Dinesh. He has suffered injuries to his hand and leg.
