The Elections Secretariat says the ballot papers of the postal vote for the upcoming Uva Provincial Council Elections will be handed to the post on Monday
Deputy Elections Commissioner M.M. Mohamed said measures in this regard are currently underway, adding that these packets will remain unopened in the workplaces of those qualified for postal voting where they will be unsealed for voting on September 4 and 5, in the presence of election officials.
Meanwhile, Postmaster General Rohana Abeyratne said that a programme for the distribution of the secure postal voting packets is currently being formulated.
Postmaster General Rohana Abeyratne added that the distribution of voting cards will commence on Wednesday of August 27. Meanwhile, the Elections Secretariat says it has received complaints of election law violations ahead of the upcoming elections.
A spokesperson of the Complaints Unit established at the Secretariat said that these complaints included six of threats and intimidation.
In addition, the spokesperson of the complaints unit added that it has received 45 complaints on illegal posters, cutouts and advertisements as well as rallies by candidates.
Meanwhile the PAFFREL organisation engaged in election monitoring says they have received 38 complaints pertaining to the upcoming Uva Provincial Council Elections.
