When someone faints on public transport, your first reaction might be to call for help, or to try to revive the person.

But when a foreign man fainted on this Shanghai subway train, the reaction was not quite what you’d expect. All the passengers in the carriage immediately fled the scene – apparently terrified by the passed out gentleman – leaving him to recover by himself.

CCTV footage from the train revealed the odd reaction of the passengers, including the stampede that ensued when the train reached the next station, in which one person even fell to the ground.

The footage also shows the man who passed out revive – looking a little confused and rubbing his head as other passengers board the train and subway staff come to investigate.

The man’s identity and current condition is unknown.
