Yemeni coast guard men saved a 20-year-old local girl from being buried alive after her father dumped her in a pit at the beach to cure her from rheumatism.
The father dug a pit up to the girl’s waist at the beach in the western port of Al Hudaydah and went home, telling her he will be back later. But the tide later pushed sand up to her neck while the water started to cover her head.
A passer-by attracted by her screams tried to pull her out but could not. He then called the police, who informed the civil defence and coast guard.
“They managed to pull her out although all her body was stuck inside the pit…the girl’s life was saved,” Yemen’s Interior Ministry said on its website.
