The Chairman of the Kolonnawa Urban Council Ravindra Udyashantha, who is accused of assaulting the council’s deputy chairman, was remanded on Monday after being produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
According to a complaint lodged with the police the alleged assault is said to have taken place when the deputy chairman of the Urban Council has been allegedly putting up posters against the chairman. The complaint further notes that the chairman was in possession of a firearm when the alleged assault was carried out.
The chairman who was due to be arrested following the incident, handed himself over to the courts through President’s Counsel Jayantha Weerasinghe.
Additional Magistrate Nirosha Fernando placed the chairman in remand custody until August 22. Furthermore, notice was issued to the police calling on them to appear before court on August 22.The police who are the complainants did not appear before court on Monday.
