Veteran batsman Kumar Sangakkara scored a brilliant 221 in the first Test against Pakistan being worked off in Galle, to claim the Number 2 spot in the list of double hundred scorers.

Batting in their second innings Pakistan were 4 for the loss of 1 wicket at stumps on Day 4 after Sri Lanka declared their first innings on 533 for 9 with a lead of 82 runs.

Mahela Jayawardane, playing his last test series and final match in Galle, perished early on in the day after making 59.

Skipper Angelo Mathews missed out on yet another century as he was caught by Younus Khan at first slip on 91 off the bowling of Saeed Ajmal breaking the 181 run stand with Sangakkara.

Sangakkara who made his tenth test double hundred was dismissed by Abdul Rehman. Sangakkara now sits in second place on the list of players who have scored double centuries. Sir Donald Bradman heads the list with 12 double centuries.

Saeed Ajmal ended with figures of 5 for 137. Pakistan trails Sri Lanka by 78 runs with 9 wickets in hand.
