Residents of several villages located in Morawaka- Trincomalee have begun abandoning their homes due to the extreme drought being experienced in the area.

Our corespondent in the area noted that over 1,000 families have abandoned their villages. Furthermore, 1,468 families were resettled in five Grama Seva divisions of the Morawewa area.

However, only 467 families remain in the area at present. The rest of the families abandoned their homes as they were unable to cope with extreme drought conditions.
