Fourth Randoli Perehera of the Kandy Esala Perehera commences at auspicious time

The fourth Randoli Perehera of the Kandy Esala Perehera commenced at the auspicious time of 6:57 p.m. on Saturday, August 9.

The fourth Randoli Perehera is one of the biggest Buddhist festivals in Sri Lanka. The Esala festival will conclude with the traditional water-cutting ceremony in the Mahaweli River at the Gatambay Thotupola on August 11.

The historic Esala Perehera, a tradition being carried from the eras of the kings, attracts thousands of devotees, pilgrims and foreign visitors to the hill capital of Kandy and is a major tourist attraction. It is held annually in honuor of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha enshrined at the Temple of Tooth in Kandy.
