The whole country blessed my son, says Yasen Lankanath’s father

The Criminal Investigations Department that commenced investigations into the kidnapping of Yasen Lankanath was able to rescue the the infant and also arrest all suspects connected to the kidnapping before a lapse of 24 hours.

Yasen Lankanath, who was kidnapped on July 28, was rescued by the police on August 1 night. The kidnapped child attended a press conference at the Police Headquarters on August 2 afternoon along with his parents.

The events that unfolded over the pat five days intrigued and captured the attention of the entire nation.

Yasen Lankanath was seen by the media afternoon in the warm embrace of his parents at a media briefing organized at the Police Headquarters. The child was brought to the media briefing under the supervision of CID officers.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana revealed that the abductors initially demanded a ransom of Rs. 10 million, but later reduced the amount to Rs. 3.5 million.

Father of the child, Mahinda Kumara Ekanayake, shared these views:

[quote]If it wasn’t for the police and the CID, we would have never found my child. The demanded for money and I was prepared to give it. In the end, my son was rescued safely and my money was also saved. The god above protected my son and the police returned him to us. I want to thank the entire nation. People conducted religious events praying for the safety of my son in temples, churches, kovils and mosques, disregarding religious differences. The whole country blessed my son and he was saved because of this.[/quote]

Yasen Lankanath’s kidnappers kept him in a wooded are in the Galkiriyakanda area in Kurunegala for several days. Yasen was reunited with his family on August 1. He was brought to the Police OIC’s official residence in Galgamuwa for investigation purposes.

A clinic in close proximity to the residence looked into the health condition of the child. The police then took steps to bring Yasen Lankanath to Colombo on August 1 night.
