During a raid carried out in the Abayaaraama road area in Naaramminiya, Kelaniya, a team including the OIC of the Kelaniya Crimes Unit has uncovered a racket where substandard fuel was being sold .
The police said that the oil was being sold without a licence from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. Twenty-four barrels of furnace oil and four barrels of hydraulic oil without broken seals were found during the raid.
The Police Media Unit said that 97 empty barrels and a cab were also taken into police custody.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are to be produced before the Mahara Magistrate’s Court on July 27.
