The waste disposal problem that Kolonnawa is facing was discussed at the Colombo District Development Coordination Committee meeting that was convened July 18.

The Coordination Committee convened at the Colombo District Secretariat in Narahenpita.

The problems — which have been caused by waste being dumped in Kolonnawa by the Colombo Municipal Council — were highlighted at the meeting.

The Committee Chairman inquired into representatives of the Colombo Municipal Council who had not attended the meeting.

Chairman of Colombo District Development Coordination Committee, Minister Susil Premajayantha expressed these views:
The administration of the Colombo Municipal Council is under those individuals. It is because these persons cannot resolve the problem that as the government, the Ministry of Urban Development, the Solid Waste Management Authority and the Ministry of Environment are working together to resolve the problem; and even when we are attempting to solve it. There are no responsible persons from the CMC here. When the government is attempting to take steps that they cannot they are not there either. But they are able to go wherever and criticise us for not resolving this.
