The Disaster Management Centre, citing data received, says 2,241 houses have been damaged following prevalent strong winds.
Assistant Director of the DMC Pradeep Kodippilli said 153 houses have been destroyed following winds.
He added that steps will be taken to provide compensation after receiving more data on the damage caused.
Meanwhile, the Department of Metereology says that the possibility for increasing Southwest monsoonal wind speeds up to 50-60 kmph at times over the country, particularly along the western slopes of the central hills is still high.
The Met Department also forecasts several spells of showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts, with showers expected to spread to the Northwestern province too.
