A stock of imported bottles of sauce unsuitable for human consumption that was being kept in a storage facility in the Ela Kanda area in Wattala has been taken into the custody of the Consumer Affairs Authority.
Ranjith Weerawardene, head of the Gampaha district Raids Unit of the CAA, stated that the stock of sauce is valued at Rs. 4.1 million.
The authority notes that the stock consists of 15,600 bottles of sauce adding that it had been imported from Dubai.
“Officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority of the Gampaha district raided a storage facility in Wattala area that is involved in sauce distribution through supermarkets,” Weerawardene said. “The raid was conducted based on complaints received by consumers. We came across items with the date of expiry as 11.10.2014 but had mold in it and were not suitable for human consumption.”
