A fifty-two-year-old Sri Lankan woman was killed after she was run over by a car while she was crossing a road in in Umm Al Quwain, in the United Arab Emirates.
UAE police said the accident took place on Tuesday night and blamed the 58-year-old driver on the grounds he failed to notice the woman and her friend as they were on the road.
The Emirates police and civil defence joined hands to pull the woman after she was squeezed under the car but she died on the way to hospital. Her 42-year-old Sri Lankan friend suffered light injuries and police said she had treatment at hospital and was discharged.
“The accident was a result of negligence by the driver who failed to pay attention to people crossing the road,” police spokesman Major Obaid bin Fadel said without identifying the driver.
