President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Wednesday commissioned the patrol boats Mihikatha and Rathnadeepa that were gifted to Sri Lanka by the Australian Government..
The two patrol boats were gifted as a gesture of goodwill to the Sri Lanka Navy.
Australia’s Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Scott Morrison also participated in the ceremony. Speaking to the media gathered at the naval base, Morrison said the gifting of the boats was symbolic of the strength of the partnership between Sri Lanka and Australia in dealing with people smuggling.
