Leader of the Opposition Ranil Wickremasinghe made a statement in Parliament on Tuesday on the recent incident in Aluthgama.

“There seems to have been a cover-up and how did that cover up take place? I am not casting any aspersions on the magistrate. I think he did the correct thing. The main issue is honorable minister is, there seems to have been a cover-up because you cannot say that a person who was shot was also killed by some other blunt weapon. So will this house be informed of all the facts.”

Minister of Justice Rauff Hakeem also spoke on the issue:

“One of the post-mortem reports confirm that in fact one death occurred due to shooting; and the other is somewhat unclear and therefore the magistrate has ordered that the judicial medical officer concerned be summoned to court and for his evidence to be lead in order to ascertain the cause of death.”
